hi everyone: my first post here
Just some background first. I am 57 and suspect my blood glucose levels have been high over last 2 years and perhaps too many years before that.
I had a general health check-up 2 years ago and passed oral glucose test, but had the follow up test because my original health check-up showed glucose reading was high. Since then had cronic tooth/rootcanal illness and onset of some gum disease. I had this for 9 months healing was so slow and its all under control and healed now. (I put this all down to high blood sugar now).
SeveraL Weeks ago i had another general check-up with several blood tests and i failed glucose fasting test. My reading was 12 and my doctor said i had T2 diabetes as a reading over 11.8 is concidered t2 diabetes.
ok. I am now proactive about the condition of t2 diabetes. i have read up and aquired knowledge and my old diet consisted of alot of high carbs. Due to ilness with tooth i had stopped regular excercise and gained weight ect. In hindsight i see now i have become carbohydrate intorent and for some years now have had bloting symptoms, and rushing to toilet after what i thought was high fat meals(haha), but it was the bread and all that starchy mashed pototo ect that i regularly consumed with my meals.
Recent test shows i am not gluten intolerent.
Ok. On hearing the news t2 diabetic i drastically changed. I did twt test, omitting everthing but protein, vegetables (no pototoes or high carb vege ect). Only oil consumed was virgin olive oil. Staight away i introduced regular excercise with daily 1 hour walks. Excellent BS results so far in just 3 weeks....plus i have lost 8kgs (gotta be alot of water in that)
Now my morning fasting around is around 4mmol/L and blood sugar range averaging 5.5 and nothing over 5.9 at all. I have now lost 9 kilo's and i feel fantastic. Also in 3 weeks my blood pressure has improved going from 120/80 to 110/70. I am no longer groggy in morning and for years being groggy was the norm.
I am in ketosis now, usually showing 4.0 mmol/l in morning using ketone strips. I am still frequently uninating (like a race horse) lol, which typically wakes me up every two to three hours at night. I have read that i need lots of water to remain hydrated and diabetics need extra salt in the form of sea salt. I drink at least 2-3 litres of water and also i do drink because i feel thirsty. I have read that going into ketosis requires extra water to help release nitrogen from body cells and can cause frequent unination, but high blood sugar (diabetes) goes as well.
1. As my blood glucose levels have been averaging 5.5 for last 3 weeks is this frequent unination still from diabetes condition or from now from being in ketosis?
2. Over the last fee days my morning bs appears to be rising to average abt 4.7 (good i think) and before that it was averaging 3.8 and once 3.1. So should i not be concerned about excess urine and hopefully just get through it given more time? Please note all my carbs are coming from low carb vegetables and salads.
