They said there was no white or red cells in urine so no need to worry . Sent urine off for analysis and results should be back Wednesday .After iv fluids and one dose of iv antibiotic i was sent home.

I once had protein in my urine. It went away on its own and Ive never had it again. I usually view all these things as my body's way of telling me to tighten my control because we do slip into old ways and sometimes we need that push to take more care.

Usually proteinuria (protein in urine) is caused by a urine infection. For kidney disease there is a specific protein called Albumin that your kidneys normally keep in your blood and if this leaks into your urine it can be a sign of (diabetic) kidney disease. A test called Albumin to Creatine Ratio (ACR) is a test performed to look for and diagnose kidney problems. A result of 30+ mmol/dl is a positive marker for diabetic nephropathy.

I had a letter from my doctor to say I had protein in my urine and another sample is going in tomorrow.My blood Glucose is on good control,and I feel well,no water retention,all other tests are fine,so not a clue whats wrong.

I went through a period of having protein showing up in my urine. GP said it was probably because I was drinking about 3+ litres of water a day and it was "flushing" protein through the kidneys. My kidney function tests have always showed up as normal and it's not caused me any problems.

Other causes of protein in the urine include:

1. Cold exposure
2. Emotional stress
3. Fever
4. Heat exposure
5. Strenuous exercise

So, several other things that are all the sorts of things that we experience. Obviously there are other things that are more serious but your GP will be checking that out if need be.

The other thing is simply eating too much protein. I know that bodybuilders eating silly amounts of protein can also experience proteinuria.

Hi. I've been watching this site for quite some time, but don't remember posting before. I am very interested in this thread, as over the past 3 years, I have been hospitalized because of kidney infections 3 or 4 times. Just before Christmas last year, I was again rushed in, this time for kidney sepsis & hypoglycemia. I was really ill, I don't remember anything for the first 4 days. I am rather concerned, as my mother died from renal failure, though she wasn't diabetic (I am Type 2, & have been on insulin for about 11 years). I have asked if there could be a connection, but have only received vague answers.
