I used to think Bernard Mathews sold real chicken until I saw a documentary on how it is manufactured from reclaimed meat gunk reclaimed from the residue of butchered meat products then extruded through machines and spun inti the fleshlike fibres to be glued into slabs then cut into cubes to fit the batter coating.
I used to think Macdonalds fries were made of potato, but apparently in the USA version they have never seen a potato in their lives. They are starch based extrusions that when fried, caramelize in the heat to the right shade of pale to go into the carton marked Fries. Note that this is not a deception, they are fried starch sticks but not chips as we know them. So calling them fries tells no lies. I have my suspicions about oven chips for the same reason. I always wondered how come they were all the same size and length and didn't go floppy. They are basically plastic, or at least a cousin of plastic.
