Please excuse my ignorance, i thought LADA was late onset Type 1? How can you not have insulin?
Because I have + antibodies yet still make insulin, for now. Please excuse my ignorance, i thought LADA was late onset Type 1? How can you not have insulin?
Late onset type 1 can progress slowly. For example I was diagnosed 2.5 years ago but prior to that I lived with constant low sugar symptoms (quite bad sweating and feeling weak) for up to 7 years, which indicates I already had type 1 triggered then but lived without insulin.
Actually funny. My diagnosis started as Reactive Hypoglycemia. My doctor then referred me to an Endocrinologist. Further testing turned my diagnosis to early 1.5/LADA. I now call my pancreas slow & stupid. Slow because slow increases in glucose, like proteins, receive a slow response. Stupid because any rapid rise, like carbs, receives a stupid Over shoot resulting in Hypoglycemia. I wonder how many people with Hypoglycemia, not on insulin, are actually early diabetics with wacky insulin responses?
There’s a low carb diet forum right here. I have found Pinterest a good source. You can just search low carb and then whatever type of recipe you want to try.Any ideas where is best to look for low carb and high protein diet

I was diagnosed with LADA a while ago after being diagnosed previously with type 2 in March 2017. My blood sugars were always super erratic on metformin/very low carb diet with huge spikes and drops. My GP then put me on the lowest dose of gliclazide 40mg and sent me to see a consultant who did various blood tests and diagnosed with me with antibody positive LADA . As I was doing so well on the gliclazide I opted to stay on it rather than switch to insulin and now, roughly 9 months down the line not much has changed. My last hba1c was 42, I eat lowish carb but not keto, and I rarely spike any more. I know that At some point in the future I may have to use insulin but intend to carry on with the gliclazide until my pancreas gives up on me. My consultant is happy for me to do this although he wants me always to have 3 monthly hba1c to monitor any deterioration.Hello
I was diagnosed with LADA type 1.5 in August 2017 aged 46 and have been in the honeymoon phase since. I follow a strict low carb / medium protein/ healthy fat diet. If anyone has questions please feel free to ask or anything they'd like to share about their journey then please do. Have a great day!
Also diagnosed Aug 2017 in my 40s. Spent 2 weeks on gliclazide with my BG just showing as 'hi' on the monitor while my GP surgery insisted I was type 2. Finally one of the GP's sent me to A&E because my ketones were so high. Hba1c was 147
Been on insulin ever since. Positive on 2 anti body tests but c-peptide shows I am producing some insulin.
I thought the plan these days was to put all type 1 - even slow onset - into insulin to protect the remaining beta cells
I only eat chicken and fish which are personal preferences. The majority of my diet is wild caught skin on salmon with lemon juice. I bake with almond meal and almond flour followed by coconut flour and use grass fed butter. Thats very helpful thank u xI only eat chicken and fish which are personal preferences. The majority of my diet is wild caught skin on salmon with lemon juice. I bake with almond meal and almond flour followed by coconut flour and use grass fed butter. These are the websites I have personally found inspirational for recipes and motivation in general:
1. You Tube Dr Richard Bernstein, a very inspirational 84 year old type 1 diabetic and still practicing Endocronologist in USA.
2. You Tube "My Healthy Type 1 Son" by Lisa Scherger. She shows what her son eats followed by very impressive blood sugar numbers.
3. Ditch the Carbs
Salmon patties
Chicken nuggets - I use chicken tenderloins and crumb using the ingredients they mention.
Garlic bread - yum!
3 Seed Bread
4. Diet Doctor
5. Elana's Pantry
Homemade tomato sauce (which is really a vegetarian pasta sauce). I use this with zoodles (zucchini noodles) which replace pasta.
6. Martina Slajerov
I have been going ketogenic but you don't have to to enjoy her recipes.
7. Angela Coleb's Divalicious Recipes
8. Almond flour biscuits at Wholesome Yum
I hope these help.
