I recently dropped my bedtime lantus from 3 to 2 units because I was having to snack all day to stop my bg dropping. Problem solved, however I'm now experiencing night time sweating and higher bg readings on waking no matter what bedtime snack i have.Anybody got any ideas?
After having the same issues as you in that too much lantus resulting in hypo either middle of night, too little high all night and in morning. I tried switching to a humalin medium acting insulin so it would be out of mw in daytime., this resulted in a stronger hypo in middle of night as this insulin had a strong peak. Then tried levemir birth once a day and 2 split doses. No help either.
In the end was put on pump to cope with early morning blood rise, but then diff hourly basal rates through the day to suit.
if you are newly diagnosed, which I assume as your basal dose is very low, could be you are still producing some which doesn't help matters. Keep testing and recording to discuss with dsn. How high are you in the mornings with none.
In the end whilst on mdi, not long after dx, I traded having no basal, resulting in slightly raised morning levels, but great numbers through the day without hypos using qa
Hi Brett you're right I'm diagnosed 6 months and hit a low carb diet almost immediately(informed choice) I was recording decent readings 6.2-7 now I'm hitting 8-9
My readings all day are good, sometimes a bit high going to bed. What I have noticed is the occasional time I have a glass of red wine or a beer before bed my readings are great in the morning albeit I up my carbs a bit in the morning to stop me going low after breakfast
