I do believe we have all missed/forgotten to do a basal injection at some point in our diabetic lives. Keep an eye on your BG's today thou AND set an alarm until you get into the swing of the split basal jabs

Agree - it should not bee too much of a problem. You could have more problems coming from the splitting of doses, than being a few hours late on the "time stamp"...
I have forgotten basal a few times (terrible memory!)....I noticed my BG's were getting high for no apparent reason....when thinking back it was the basal.Ok as long as there is nothing to get scared of I felt like such a idiot when I remembered

How long have you been type 1?My bloods are always bloody high hence the split now see if this works but yeah deffo if you see something changing you know it’s definitely something fishy going on. I only thank god there ate forums like this and support groups on fb for anytime you need advice!
How long have you been type 1?
47 years....5 years now and you?
I was diagnosed with Type 2 back in 1995 when I was 49 but I wasn't and never have been overweight but my father had it and my sister has it so maybe it's late onset Type 1 and in my genes. I was on tablets for about eight years and then went on to Lantus then Novorapid was also added. My fluctuating sugar levels settled down on the insulin but the bed time level would be quite high and earlier this year I thought it might be because the Lantus wasn't lasting long enough so I decided to split the dose and my evening sugar levels have been much better since doing that. I set an alarm for 10.00am and 10.00pm so I don't forget but that is also to do with some tablets I have to take. I was admitted to hospital without notice a few months ago and didn't take my insulin for over a day and it didn't make a lot of difference to my sugar levels, until I had a mug of drinking chocolate that is! I don't think being late or missing a dose occasionally will hurt.
47 years....
Lol....lots of testing. DAFNE course is a must do. T1D is a PITA. I will not let it beat me. I control it...it doesn't control meCrikey! So you have a lot of wise words for us newbies?

Hi rachy0121,
Presumably, ma'am, you've given yourself your split dose of Lantus (insulin glargine) now that you've realised that you were late?
You have little to worry about, ma'am, as Lantus has a period of action of up to 24 hours, which means that although your previous dose was about half of your total basal insulin dose youd have still had some working within your system.
Diabetes.co.uk do have a page that shows the periods of action of different types of insulin here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/insulin/insulin-actions-and-durations.html but I much prefer a similar chart here: https://www.joslin.org/info/insulin_action.html as it indicates the names of the different types of insulin, which you MAY find of more use.
As for your question to porl69 about what PITA is an acronym for, it means Pain In The Ass ... if you'll pardon the French. ;-)
Don't knock yourself, rachy0121. As you can see from the responses you've already received, you are NOT the only one that has missed giving, or been late giving, an injection.
Be well, ma'am.
Lots of Love and Light.
Mick

P.S. Please don't be offended, or alarmed, at the 'x's'. It's merely a logo, of sorts, that I've used for 40-odd years now.
