Practice diabetes doctor didn't want to see me again for 12 months when I saw him in July last year, so this meant I wouldn't get another HbA1c check for 12 months - which I consider appalling since in theory it's the only monitoring I get as a type 2. When I saw my "proper" GP for my semi annual general check up he agreed this was too long to wait, so I had my blood test last week and phoned for my results today. I'm well pleased because, IMO, I've not recently had as good levels from my own BG testing as I did up until last summer. However, my latest HbA1c is 41 against my previous 40, so it seems as I'm not doing as badly as I thought.

That means you're pretty stable which is, like, normal healthy diabetic, if you see what I mean. Ironically the more we manage our diabetes successfully the more the NHS abandons us to our own devices, but luckily we have this wonderful forum instead.
You're ideally placed to decide what you can do to bring your levels down again.

Yes it looks pretty stable, but it certainly gives no indications of the swings up and down I sometimes get. I set more store by my own monitoring though which really shows me what's going on. And as far as I can see my problems are more health than bad diet related at the moment which means I don't have so much control over things. But maybe my result will help bring my stress levels down a bit now - and so hopefully help with BG levels too...

Great Robbity
I cant get below 46 HbAic but I was 58 last June,
Have another test next month.

@Patricia21 - fingers crossed then! And just keep at it - you've done well!

I had a whopping great drop after I was diagnosed just by cutting out all the obvious sugary culprits - and not really knowing what I was doing, but I had rather been going at the sweeties.

@scottish-jim Errm - what's exercise??? I'm a bit too clapped out for such shenanigans!

Metformin, very low carb/ketogenic diet, and a very great fear of losing my eyes or hands...

Well done robbity. I'm with you on the exercise front, my reasoning is I only have so many heartbeats.and I don't want to use them all up at once

My December results were 38. Got a good old kicking for it being 'to low'. In your dreams nursey. Apparently it should be around the mid 50s :***:.. so she said..I have relented after the 'you are overdue ' letter number 3 and had the blood test today. I'm aiming for 35 so I think another full and frank exchange of views is on the cards. ..

Latest HbA1c is 98! 2 previous 79 & 86! Have to wait another 6 weeks for referral to Bedford Diabetic Clinic and in meantime I am struggling !!!

What's your typical daily food intake?
. Maybe we can give some pointers as slimming world is not really a diet for diabetics from what I've seen on here.

I am ! I'm at slimming world on strict diet and losing weight, watching carbs but no progress
Do have a meter. ??. And slimming world is probably not the best dietary requirements for a diabetic. It's scary at first. Some foods that you think k are ok are not. You will greatly benefit from a meter and try not to eat anything over 5g of carbohydrates per 100g. Keep the portion size down. I try and not go over 30g carbohydrates per meal. This figure is up to you but the lower the better. I am not always successful,
I eat to my meter. If a bit high before a meal I adjust the food I eat. If I find something that pushes up my bg after a meal I reduce the portion size or don't eat it again. So my A1c of 40 shows I'm not to far of the mark. Now to loose some weight !!

I always think a diet isnt sustainable and sounds like starvation.
I dont consider myself on a diet, its a different way of eating for life, and its worked for me ,I dont feel deprived or hungery, and eat as much as I want on the right foods, which means very low carbs.
I didnt try to lose weight as my weight was fine as it was,but I have lost, and now trying to maintain it.

You have the same problem I have, maintaining weight, it's a nightmare eating enough of the right things so your weight stays stable.
