LCHF Diet

Apparently statins can help extend your life expectancy if you are a man and have a history of heart disease - by about a day on average! Enjoy your day!

I love this stuff - but DISCLAIMER: I am not an expert, I may have got something(s) wrong! Please check these things out for yourself.

:wry smile - BUT don't ask a health professional for advice!!!!!

HI, yes i have just started testing. Eaten one slice once in while of Burgen low carb and was ok wasn't sure if it was ok to do everyday. But i suppose that just depends on me and how i react. I would just really like to stop feeling so tired. So was hoping almost no carbs would help this? Thanks for the suggestion, maybe i will try this more often. Do you have a slice everyday?

I will give the flaxseed in my yoghurt a go. Thanks

Could the tiredness be because you haven't increased your fats sufficiently to compensate for the low carb? You have to keep your calories (energy) levels up. By cutting carbs you are losing a lot of calories, so need to replace those. You probably already know this, but it is a possibility as to why you are tired. It could also be your body complaining about lack of carbs, known as Carb Flu, and that will pass.

If you like bread or toast, and Burgen doesn't spike you too much, then I see no harm in having some every day. It's only if it spikes you that you have to avoid it or have it occasionally. I have one slice of the Hovis every lunch time, usually toasted, and sometimes another slice with evening meal depending what else I'm having. Its combinations of carb foods that spike me. For example eggs on toast is fine, but bread with another highish carb food certainly wouldn't be, even if I were still within my carb limits.

Hi Sonia, welcome to the Forum. I have been on the LC/HF diet since being diagnosed in February, I eat cheese, full fat yoghurts, cream in coffee, etc., and to my surprise when I had my HbA1c test in May, all my numbers were better. My Cholesterol was better, the total was down from 4.7 to. 4.5 LDL (bad) went down from 2.4 to 2 and HDL (good) went up from 2 to 2.2. I know they are small amounts but it just goes to show that eating high fat does not necessarily raise Cholestrol. @Bluetit1802 is absolutely right that eating foods with Cholestrol in them like eggs prawns etc., does not raise Cholestrol.

Hope this has helped.

Good luck with the diet

My Cholesterol was 8. before I started my low carb diet, about two weeks ago, I don't know what it is now. I am just getting my BG levels and my weight down and will worry about the cholesterol later.
I am eating fish and eggs every day, drinking more water than ever before I have cut bread, rice, potato's and only have low carb pasta. I think I would sooner have high cholesterol than take statins.

My cholesterol has improved slightly since February.

Triglycerides now 0.7 Feb 1.0
HDL now 2.2 Feb 1.9
LDL now 3.3 Feb 4.0

And I eat a lot of fat of all kinds. Well, not margarine or other frankenfood but olive oil, butter, coconut oil and lard.

And I have never had so low LDL as 3.3 before.

Here is a website written by the guru of cholesterol : Uffe Ravnskov http://www.thincs.org/

Also you can download samples of books from Amazon for Kindle (incl apps) The other Great Cholesterol Con by Anthony Calpo conayins quite a lot of information and it's free. I guess the other Con book may contain quite a lot of info for nowt too.

Any Advice please.

I know I have not been doing this long, buy my BG got down to 6.1 but the last four readings taken over this last week have all been 9.0.

I was hoping to see them keep going down.

Morning Davey! I'm a little perplexed this morning - as per my post in my thread about first ever levels! Got my code free yesterday, was 7.7 four hours after eating at midday yesterday, ate at 6pm at work, not eaten since- just about to have something and tested 7.3??? I was expecting lower!! Been lchf for 6 days now. My test results at diagnosis was 7.6 ???!!! My nurse practitioner told me to stop the met on Friday as I rang to ask for slow release due to the bad tummy side effects, got to see him tomorrow night instead!!

Hi Davey, I see you are taking Metformin, how long have you been taking it? It takes about for it to kick in, so you should see some improvement after about 3 weeks.

Marilyn.

Hi Kimbo, It takes a little while for your body to adjust to Low carbing. You say you haven't eaten since 6 pm last night. It could be that you Liver has dumped some glucose into your system to prepare you for the day. I found that if I don't eat for long periods of time, or if I take the dog out before I have breakfast I get a higher reading, so I try to eat later in the evening and have breakfast before I go out and my fasting levels have been between 5.5 and 5.8.

Hope this helps

Marilyn

I'm hoping that's why I'm still getting 7.7 and 7.3 mazz, not taken ant metformin since thurs evening as above..........
