Did they say not offer an explanation on why your left eye is becoming darker, it seems a bit odd to send you on your way and to say don't worry.

I agree with noble head, or you could make an appointment with your optician, tell them your concerns and they may be able to see you asap. Good luck.

Where was the eye test done, Ally, and who exactly told you not to worry? And can you see as well with your left eye, and it's just a bit darker or is the darkness causing you to see less well?

Sorry Ally, but you know I always have a million questions!

Ally's post.

I read that, but it didn't answer the questions I asked. Her GP could have asked her to read the magic chart, and been happy she could read the 4 inch letters.

Ally's darker vision could be like wearing shades. When I wear my shades I can see just as well as with my normal glasses, but everything is darker due to the lense coating.

I do try to read posts RRB.

my left eye has always been bad for sight
its just over the past year, everything seems dark. my gp and optiian said not to worry

Thanks Ally. Have you had your diabetic eye screening recently? I know you haven't had your feet done in a while, but can't recall about your eyes.

Had it just come on then I would have suggested you got a referral over to the Ophthalmology Clinic at your local hospital, however if you've always had problems with your sight and your HCP's are aware of this then it probably is best not to worry.

I can understand why Ally would be concerned, as a negative change, in an already weak eye ("....over the past year, everything seems dark...." ), would be scary. I know it would scare me.

@ally1 - When they told you not to worry, did they give you any explanation as to why your vision is darker?

and I never said you didn't....................

They could of told you why they seem to be unconcerned as our eye sight is so important, it's understandable that you are concerned.
Take care and I do hope your eye improves.
Best wishes RRB

it started happening about 12 months ago

they just said see how it goes. i don,t want to go blind

'Darker' doesn't sound like a diabetic complication. Usually it's a pattern or some similar area of disturbance in your overall field of view.

You need to get back to the doctors, and ask them what they have diagnosed, if they are asking you to wait, but it doesn't sound bad news.

I think your Doctor telling you not to worry is all very well for him. I completely understand you not wanting to go blind.

Is the darkness you describe progressing, or is it staying the same for now? Did you mention the darkness at your retinal screening appointment?

yes mentioned it and they said see my gp

If this continues to concern you Ally, I'd be inclined to go back and ask your GP what he believes is causing your symptoms. Concerns such as this are very wearing, mentally, and I know you are already tackling depression-type issues, so you don't need any mystery "unexplained something" in the back of your mind the whole time.

For me, I can cope with whatever information I have, but I detest things that are unknown or not understood. Those things drive me bonkers!
