Son went for day surgery today and got 5 teeth out, he isnt eating much and has low bs I,ve adjusted his novo, he has only been on basal/bolus 9 days so we dont have his doses correct yet, he has had high bs every night before bed .. usually 14, my question is do I still give him the usual dose of levimer or not? I,m guessin tonight he will be around 5 going to bed.
The short answer is yes.
Levemir is designed to ensure his blood sugar remains stable over a 24 hour period. Without it his bg would rise throughout the day. It isn't designed to deal with the digestion of food as such, so he should still take it even if he isn't eating.
Sounds like he's having a tough time of it!
Best wishes,
I would be a little careful though as the basal may be higher than the natural production of glucose so might cause a low , we only started our daughter on basal/bolus around 6 weeks ago and have reduced the levimer to 4 as it was a little to much for her.
Keep doing BG tests just in case would be my advise.
