Libre prescription

Hi all - I'm a newbie here - DMT1 for 36 yrs and been self-funding Libre sensors for 6 months and think they're great!

Have now persuaded GP to give me NHS prescription but am having trouble finding pharmacy to supply even though local CCG has special Individual Budget. Any other similar experiences? or helpful suggestions?

I'm amazed you managed to get your GP to approve - well done!

Doubt you can get them from a Pharmacy. Best thing to do would be to ring Abbott and see what they can suggest.

Was it an individual funding request approved by the ccg to get the libre funded? If so, I reckon it would work the same was as it does with pumps - abott should supply you with the sensors directly & invoice your ccg. I don't think you need to be getting it on prescription or via a chemists. Maybe an experienced pumper can help with how it actually works in practice...

Hope you find an answer. Great that you've achieved funding - can you share anymore about the basis for this? Would be really interesting & helpful.
 
As @catapillar says if that's individual funding that has been granted then an account needs to be set up with the provider, the sensors are not available on prescription so your actual prescription is worthless. You can get the ordinary test strips for the libre meter side of things on the NHS though.
 
Thanks to all - I can now see the route I've got to follow with my worthless prescription! The CCG have been helpful so far.

For @catapillar - I made a business case of sensors v test strips, added the reduction in HbA1c achieved using Libre sensors and then showed them my prickless finger tips - sold! Well after 3 months and 2 partners meetings!

Will advise how long it takes for account to be set up and sensors delivered.
 
Interesting. I'm tempted to try the same. I use the AccuChek Mobile test cassettes and the cost versus Libre sensors isn't dissimilar. I thought that (at present) the issue was less about cost and more about the fact the Libre was not NHS approved?
 
I still have to finger prick, for my pump to function properly so i don't think they would fund it for me. I know i can't afford to use it monthly but when i can get sensors will be for basal/trend checking.

Do be aware that if you drive the DVLA will not accept the libre or CGM readings instead of finger pokes.
