I'm plagued with false lows and the say not compatible with you like an antique hand held reader (no thanks)

I treated myself to a new Samsung S26 Ultra at Christmas time because all I ever get from other people is socks and whisky.
Anyways - because it was a new phone on the market, Dexcom had not tested for the Dexcom One sensor and cleared it for use. The Dexcom App would not work on the S26 so I had to carry 2 phones around for a while.
Dexcom have now stopped the Dexcom One product and moved to Dexcom One+ which does work on the S26.
So, a long way of saying Yes - there are compatibility issues between devices and software.
I don't know what phone/software you using but you may find that Abbott update the App in due course and it will work on the most popular phones.
I think it is difficult for medical device manufacturers to keep abreast of the plethora of phones/smart watches on the market. A medical device manufacturer is required to keep an auditable record of Compatible Devices and has to retain proof that they tested it's functionality (I recently worked in that sector).

Most software manufacturers will have a cut off where any operating system (OS) older than the chosen point will be unsupported.
It is usually not cost effective to support a very small number of users on a platform that is often not supported by the OS vendor.
On Android, I have seen Apps go unsupported on Android 13 but still supported (for now) on Android 14.
Under Windows, there are programmes which still work on XP, Vista, 8.1 and 10 which will be out of support on those OS.
