Its almost compulsory to have life insurance for a mortgage these days especially if using the help to buy scheme with the government.

You should have life cover for a mortgage if there will be someone "left behind" that would need to live in the house and their income does not cover the mortgage payments. (Banks don't like making people homeless, it is bad PR.........)
