Hello,

So me and my other half managed to get a mortgage (yay!!!
) And have been strongly advised to take out life insurance.

Our mortgage advisor helped us apply for legal and general life insurance cover. After them requesting a medical report for me from my GP they declined covering us. Must of been due to my diabetes and my partner has no health issues!!!

I've just started an application with vitality. They seem to be heading the same way, asking if I've had any hospital admissions, if I have any protein in my urine... That they need to contact my gp

Has anyone had any experience with this? Any recommendations of good company's to go with?
I just want to make sure my other half isnt saddled with a massive debt if I was to die!
Thank you in advance

I don't have experience as a customer, but I have worked for a very large life house in the past, in technical areas, including actuarial.

To be honest, that they are writing to your Doc means they are considering you, so they must see some potential for business.

It's a fact that the insurance company is looking forwards for 25 years, or however long your mortgage is scheduled for, and f course, a lot can change in that time. It's very different from looking at a shorter term policy.

Should you run into the same issue again, or if you are offered terms you don't find acceptable (or maybe affordable), then you can ask your Doctor to see his report. That would allow you to ensure he has expressed you and your condition accurately. If not, then he is your first port of call.

Whatever you do, don't just keep making applications. It doesn't help.

Who is choosing your preferred providers for you? Is this something you are your partner are doing yourselves, or have you used a broker of some sort?

This site has a relationship with a broker. As you would expect that broker has lots of experience in dealing with people living with diabetes. A link to them can be found here,if you want to talk to someone else about this: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetic-life-insurance.html

Good luck with it all.
