Link between trauma/shock and diabetes?

Is there a link between physical trauma and diabetes?
In November 2011 I severely burnt my left hand, exactly a year later I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. There s no record of anyone in my family having diabetes and I am in good health. I have heard that there is a possibly link that triggers off diabetes, can anyone give me any further information on this or if someone is in a similar situation ? Any information would be much appreciated thank you x
