HiHi Lisa
What was your A1C when you were diagnosed? When you say low carbs what is the amount of carbs are you eating? And when you exercise how much does your BG change? Might need to relax and give the new dosages time to work. I am not personally familiar with those drugs as I am on insulin.

Ahh that makes complete sense. Thankyou so much for yoyr help.runner2009 said:Hi Laura
Yes starving yourself can cause the last liver to dump glucose into your blood system. The disease changes as we move along based upon external factors and its own progression. So we need to be constantly testing and adjusting.
Sounds like your meds need adjusting, but in the mean time I would restart myself on a consistent carbohydrate diet of three meals a day and two light snacks. I would try for 2 servings of carbos per meal that would be about 30g per meal. I would reduce my protein and increase my fat and see what works.
As for exercise, some people exercise before and after a meal affects the BS greatly and others not so much. I can drop between 10 to 20 points doing the following before or after some meals.
1. 30 to 60 squats
2. 30 to 60 seconds of jumping jacks
3. 10 to 60 pushups or wall pushups
4. 30 to 60 seconds of wall sits - back against a wall and squat down as if you are sitting
5. 30 to 60 seconds of planks
You don't have to do all of these but I try for at least 3. Doesn't work for everyone but for me it is a good tactic.
The consistent carbo diet really helps by eliminating a variable.

Hi daisy.Hi Lisa.My story is similar to yours.I was and still am a bit overweight. ..diagnosed as type 2 around 2 years ago . No meds hb 6.7, 6 months later 5.9, then 6.6. On low carb diet since diagnisis and all of the sudden hba1c shoot up to 10.1. .It means my average sugar was about 13 mmol .
Tried metformin for 2 weeks with hardly any decrease in bs levels- morning bs around 10 , up to 17 after food.
I asked a doctor for anti GAD test and c- peptide test..After few days got results back and turns out I have Type 1 diabetes.
I am on insulin injections for a month but it is not that bad and at least my bs is down.
HEY Lisa. Please do ask a doctor for those tests .Can I ask how old are you?Hi daisy.
Yes that certainly sounds very similar. I think I shall ask the dnif we can look at that.
I am hearing more and more that lots of Type 2 have antibodies for both types and many type 2 end up on insulin as more of their beta cells die offSo you are like me ( I am 34) a bit too young to have type 2 being only a bit overweight on diagnosis.
From what I read on this forum not all doctors are as helpful as mine. MY DSN was a nightmare wouldnt send me for those important blood test because " they are expensive".I wish you good luck. And please let us know how it goes.
that I was fed up with the whole performance and things were going to change! I drank nothing but water all day - no food. The following day I ate normally - the day after that I fasted and largely thereafter..
freaking scary, i am diagnose 17 months ago. on metformin for 6 months, hba1c on jan 2014 is 4.7.....but this thread make me rethink that it will burst suddenly.
Good for you. Congratulations not easy to accomplish thati cut down on my carb, and take out soft drinks, took oldenlandia drinks with salt instead.
