In general for most people, there lowest ebb of hormones is around 2am-3am, as hormones can effect blood sugars, this is in general the point where your bg would be at there lowest durning the night.. Set you alarm clock for around this time so that you can take a BG reading, this would give a good intecation if you are going to need to eat something and whether overall you might have to look at increaseing, decreasing even whether spilting your lantus....
When I changed over to basla/bolus many years ago, my diabetic team had worked out my starting dose so that in theroy provent nighttime hypo's and then we worked over a couple of weeks to tweek to the correct amount
