Hi
I'm a type 2, and on my version of a LCHF Diet, that's worked well for me over the last few years.
Just wondering, if Testing for Ketones in urine, you can get an indicate when you are burning fat, as you will pass ketones ?
( I think).I've never used them.
At some stage shortly I will get to the point of wanting to stop loosing weight.
Would increasing Carbs, and testing till you get to the amount of carbs that are the turning point work as a tool for maintaining weight ?
Trust you get my drift
Anyone tried this and when and how often do you test ?

How many carbs are you on? I've never tested for ketones, and never really thought much about it.

It varies, as I love fruit, but about 80-100 average a day.
I've dropped weight from 128Kg to 89Kg currently (About 3 years)
For my ideal weight I should drop about 8 more( BMI theory), but I think when you start looking like you need food that's about the right weight and im getting there, 85 is about right I think

I doubt you will have many ketones with that amount of carbs. I have read that they only come into play on very low carbs (under 40g or similar), although I did read that some people experience mild ketones on under 100g carbs. But I know very little about it.

Well done on your weight loss, that is brilliant. I am in a similar boat to you. I expect to reach my goal weight in the coming weeks, am on about 75g carbs, don't want to increase my carbs to the extent it affects my BS, but also don't want to increase protein or fats! I have a few weeks to think about it.
I agree about the BMI theory. My BMI has dropped from 31 to 26. 25 will be fine, but any less and I'll look gaunt.

Well done to you as well.
Hope someone else knows the level they indicate, and hopefully has used them.
I am just trying to find a simple way, also with not upsetting BG as you indicated
My thinking being that if I increase carbs till the strip shows no ketones, I should in theory not loose or gain any weight?

I'll be very surprised if you'll need to change anything once you reach your goal weight - assuming you get that far. It didn't happen for me - my body found the weight it liked and my weight loss stopped without me changing a thing. That was nearly 18 months ago and try as I might to get below the plateau weight, my body keeps bringing me back to it.

I would only worry if you reach the weight you want and then continue to drop below it - but again, I'd be very surprised if that actually happens unless there is some other medical condition you don't know about.

Thanks Indy51,
Yip makes good sense to me as the weight loss has tended to slow down as I loose more weight, almost to minimal amounts. I don't think I have changed anything diet wise.
Ill just keep going till I loose more and worry if I put on !

I am currently consuming 50g of carbs per day and test my ketones most mornings, even though my BS levels are normal. I have a blood ketone monitor and my levels are around 0.6, which suggests that fat burning is taking place. I've never used the ketone sticks so not sure what the equivalent reading would be. I was looking on a website just last night about ketones and fat burning and it was quite interesting:

www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/articles/high-blood...to...ketones/all/

This gives info on low carb diets as well as ketone levels for fat burning. M x
