I was very happy about having found a pretty tasty lowish carb bread (about half the carbs of normal bread) in my local supermarket. But today I went out to do various unpredictable things, exercise-wise, and realised that I usually tuck some bread and cream-cheese, hummus, egg-salad or some other scoopable topping in my bag to fend off hypo's before they're there. Much better than eating sweets in my opinion, as I have to eat something anyway and I can vary the bread/topping ratio depending on activity and bg.
Doesn't work quite that way with lower-carb bread, though. I'll sleep on it to decide to go back to normal bread or find some other trick for nourishment/impending hypo's when doing unusual things.
Never thought lower carb bread would have it's own problems!
Antje, I know the feeling! I do not like low carb bread, it simply is not the same to me. I prefer to have half a slice of 'normal' bread (usually sourdough or dark rye as I find this is sturdy and gives a satisfying crunch when toasted). Yes, you have to be careful to stick with half a slice but it is oh so very satisfying and depending on the bread, anything between 7 and ten carbs).

Haha, this is exactly what I do on normal days, although not with sourdough but with another type of bread. I thought I had a winner when I found this 'half-carb' type of bread, until I realised I had to take something with me to prevent a hypo. I like to use normal food to prevent a hypo when unusually active, as I have to eat anyway and I can as well do that when on a downward trend, with no or less insulin. Seems a lot better than eating sweets and then having to inject for a meal.
