I always make one of two fruit cakes for Christmas but now I'm not sure. Is there a way to limit the carb impact? Almond flour? Does it work?

Ground almonds work very well

I wouldn't be worrying too much about the flour. All the dried fruit in a fruit cake are going to make it pretty carby...

Agree with the fruit, what about using berries, probably frozen ones ? I buy mine from Morrison's they used to be £2.00 , on Friday I paid £2.25 for 500 grams.

Of course fruit cake is terrible high in carbs, that is why I want to reduce where ever possible. You can't really cut out the fruit, can you? Wouldn't be much of a fruit cake without it but flour, that is something else. My recipe calls for 200 grams of flour to three eggs.

I was given a 'lower' carb christmas cake recipe if you would like it? I havent tried it, might this year but not sure it keeps long so will do it the weekend before christmas. I have made my traditional Christmas cake which ive been feeding brandy. I will give half away, so just have a small bit with no marzipan or icing.

Yes please!

A great friend of mine had a fantastic recipe (which I can't get hold of, because it died with her, I'm afraid)

Basically, it was a standard rich fruit cake, but with a thick layer of marzipan baked into it. It had masses of pecan nuts in it too...

So, I'm guessing that a fruit cake made with almond flour, berries instead of sultanas and raisins, lots of pecans, orange peel, cherries (not sweetened), booze, a marzipan layer, and no icing...

Would be rock hard, lower carb and a mouthgasm.
