I need to have my gallbladder removed, so in the interim and post surgery, I will need to eat low fat too.

Has anyone had any experience with eating a low carb/ low fat diet? I have basically been limiting myself to lean protein and vegetables.

you may find post surgery could be ok, but presurgery can trigger an attack by stimulating the gallbladder too much and shifting a stone.
I think you will find you can't do low carb low fat, you may need to chose one.

Hi - welcome.

I had my gallbladder out yonks ago. Have to be careful with fat. Am eating low carb and some fat....find I can tolerate nuts, some cheese, avocado, olives etc, bit of olive oil.....

If you are waiting to have your gallbladder out I guess you may have to avoid as much fat as possible to avoid an attack?

After surgery, some people find they can eat normal levels of fat (whatever normal is...!!) others, I think around 30% find they have to be careful. I'm in the 30%!

You can also take supplements to encourage bile production etc.

Am at work now, but do message me if there's anything you'd like to confer over and will get back to you tonight.

Have also learnt from reading posts that though people refer to lchf (high fat) some people eat just more fat, and stop avoiding all fat like we would if on low fat/calorie counting diet. if we have weight to loose, not eating too much fat ok, as we burn our own, but once weight target reached, may need to eat more fat to get enough calories/energy etc. Eating some fat is good for us anyway (omega 3s etc!!)

Good luck with the op.

All the best

Thank you!

I have had non-stop discomfort from mild to severe since Wednesday last week. My US on Friday revealed multiple gall stones and inflammation. Hopefully, the surgery will occur in the next few weeks. I am just a wee bit discouraged.

I really hope that I can make this LC/Some fat lifestyle work, because I already feel better and my numbers are improving. It helps to know what type of fats work for you in your diet.

I will keep you on speed dial...or speed PM.

Yes do that, and be kind to yourself while you wait for the op, I got a bit fed up then too when waiting but its good they know what the cause is....hope the pain has subsided, and if it has hopefully you'll be ok if you minimise fat at least short term. I have only been lower carbing for a couple of months but am hopeful it will be sustainable even though have to watch the fat.

Take care

I have a surgery consult for Thursday!

Thank you for all of your help. I have been doing okay eating LC/LF, but having a hard time getting my calories in without the fat. I just don't have much of an appetite, but I don't want my blood sugar dipping or rising. Diet ginger ale and dill pickles seem to help settle my stomach enough that I can follow it with a little chicken and a vegetable.

Nothing stays in me for long, though.
