Low levels at type 2

This morning I did my fasting self test and got my lowest measure ever - 4.1.

This is so close to being under I'm not sure if it is a good thing or bad.

I must confess that on Friday, I had my first night out in the months since diagnosis and had a few more whiskys than I normally would, whilst out. I say this incase it has any bearing. I think I had about 4 double shots maybe 1 more.

I am on 1 x metformin and 1 x simvastatin.

What are the signs of a hypo I should be aware of for future reference?

PP,

At 4.1 you are sailing close to the wind, 4 and below is the start of hypo so be very careful. Hypo symptoms vary in different people, but usually consists of sweating, sudden hunger, confusion, shakiness, confusion and many more, just google 'hypo signs' for a comprehensive list.

Drinking alcohol can have a delayed effect, so quite possible this may have lowered your bg to this level, but hopefully another type 2 may be along soon to offer some more advice.

Hi PP,
The effects of the alcohol are the most likely cause. Did you snack before and after having a good time? I have seen quoted that it can take as long as 48hrs. to get sorted.
Could also be that have not eaten enough. Non diabetics can become hypo if they delay their meals.
Whilst we have to be careful of carb content, it is essential that you eat well balanced meals and bulk them up with extra veggies, salads etc. I start getting symptoms in the low 4's.
Hope it is getting back to normal. You don't want this problem.

Catherine.

I ate before I went out and after also. I had some of a marijuana joint.....(I know....I'm not proud of it ). Was up till the early morning and slept most of the next day. On the plus, it was SO nice to finally get out and socialise since I haven't done this at all post diagnosis. The food I eat these days does have a few grams of carbs in it. As a tip, for those of us with hyper levels, I noticed having a meal like grilled salmon with a salad dressed in balsamic/apple cidar with olive oil, helps get levels down also.

Funny thing is that I don't feel hypo. I'm currently practicing some VBA programming and if I was a bit low on suagr I'd normally be able to tell by the mistakes and general lack of mental stamina/concentration.

??

Okay......

I sense a serious aura of disapproval to my last post.

Yes, I think we can safely assume that I did get carried away on my first night out after having been couped up for so long.

I doubt anyone is sitting in judgement!! It's more that most of what can be said has been said. But for the record, my readings as a type 2 are in the 4s all the time (fasting level first thing, that is) and sometimes 3.7 or 3.9, something like that. I just feel hungry and have brekkies. Our bodies are all different. But the fact that you are on meds means you should take more care than me - and I guess that with medication double shots and weed need taking into account. As is the possible introduction of bugs into your programming ;-) I hate buggy software... Anyway, glad you had fun and survived.
