I have a question for all of you type 1 and type 2 diabetics. Have you ever had problems with low testosterone and how prevalent are those problems in diabetes? I am a type 1 diabetic and it seems I have very high levels of testosterone(I am very very easy able to build muscle mass, have very masculine facial features among other things) and am worried that diabetes might lower it and consequently athetically impair me. Anyways, what are your experiences? Lowered T or low T? If yes, how did you that do sports deal with these issues?
So this seems if you hadn't had an auto immune issue you probably wouldnt have had metabolic syndrome. What the paper doesnt answer for me is what is the causal link and is it the high levels of insulin that lowers T levels
Interestingly the glucose solution lowered testosterone levels by up to 25 percent in all of the men regardless of whether they were diabetic, pre-diabetic or had normal blood sugar levels. Based on this study, the authors recommend that when men have a testosterone blood test it should be a fasting test, in order to give the most accurate results.
So now I have stated that let me answer your questions: I used to be very sporty used to cycle hundreds of miles every week, sail, canoe, fence, dive and this drove me to have lots of sugar as fast energy. But as I started dropping sports I found I got more and more sluggish and my stomach started to get bigger and bigger. Interestingly my legs have always been very muscular and slim even when I wasnt.
