Hi! I'm a 67 yr old female diabetic on insulin who is suffering from macular oedema following a cataract operation. I have had one laser treatment but the condition has deteriorated. I am considering digging deep into my savings to buy Lucentis treatment, but on looking at the website i see that there are a number of very alarming looking side effects. Has anyone had any experience of Lucentis treatment? Thanks! Julipen

At my hospital they use Avastin rather han lucentis to "dry " the fluids bbefore laser in macular oedema. This did not work for me so it is assumed that Lucentis will not work either. It is ,however a much cheaper option than lucentis and may be worth your looking into

I have had several treatments with it and although they have no had a good outcome I had o side effects either. It is very similar to Lucenis although not developed for eyes.as was lucenis.I understand sudies have shown it to be s effective for many people.

At my hospital they normally use steroid injections in the first insance. This is the only thing which is effective for me but the downside is hat it desnt always last very long.

I had the reverse experience o you. I had macular oedema and the reatmen caused a cataract. When this was removed the surgery caused he oedem o worsen although I was given an avastin injection in an attempt to prevent this effect.

Steroid injections have now helped to alleviate he problem.

All of this is available on the NHS. You may like to discuss these alternatives with your surgeon if you have not already done so.

Hi, I have been very fortunate to be able to have approximately 8 lucentis injections over the past 12 months. I immediately noticed a significant improvement after the first injection (which was totally pain free). I would recommend the injection but it is VERY expensive and I am not surre how long the positive effects last for as I have only just finished my treatment. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
