Yeah, I saw that one and was like, *GULP*.From page 1, your HbA1c of 12.9% means you are a diabetic. That's a high number. Thought you'd want to know that right a way.
They put me on metaformin 2 days after that test.fasting 13.4 and A1c of 12.9 is a worry
cholesterol ok, hdl too low, triglyceride too high, ldl ok
do you smoke or been sick? bicarb a bit high
rest is ok
I'd get the bg down, go get some decent rugs from dr, I'd even start thinking about a long acting insulin to get it down
Ah ... why would they not have put me on something stronger? You need more intervention than metformin!!
They put me on metaformin 2 days after that test.
I don't smoke and I haven't been sick. :s
I had drank for three evenings prior to the test ... and was drinking 2 litres of lemonade a day just before it too. Dunno if that makes a difference.
we all were drinking real soft drink in the week before test
ok, because everything except sugar is ok, the bicarb may be a ringer, ask dr about that
you need to take your diet very seriously, I cat all grain, grain product, potato and sugary stuff and I was only A1c 7.5
see what you can get it down to in a month

other than your sugar.... ringer, an odd reading that is of no consequence, because everything else is ok.. you could look up bicarb blood test on the netSorry to sound like a n00b but what do you mean by "a ringer"?
Also, I have cut carbs to next to nothing. No bread, rice, pasta or potatoes.
Just meat, greens, cauliflower, tomatoes and eggs.
Is this a good start?
That's a brilliant start. It may sound counterintuitive, but make sure you're getting enough fat. You should get a blood glucose meter and monitor you're blood sugars. However, as was said above, insulin may be called for in your case.Sorry to sound like a n00b but what do you mean by "a ringer"?

I have a BG monitor arriving tomorrow. That's a brilliant start. It may sound counterintuitive, but make sure you're getting enough fat. You should get a blood glucose meter and monitor you're blood sugars. However, as was said above, insulin may be called for in your case.
there was an indian report, where they give insulin for 3 months and taper it off as the diet and other meds kicked in, metformin will bring it down to A1c around 12, diet will get it ? I'd be looking for at least gliclazide for the time beingThat's a brilliant start. It may sound counterintuitive, but make sure you're getting enough fat. no need to be worried, it can take a month to sort out where you are going...and it's just a matter of diet exercise and drugsI have a BG monitor arriving tomorrow.
To be honest I'm a little concerned that they only put me on metaformin if I am so high!
I may have to call the doctor tomorrow and ask why.
I'm quite worried now.
