Mange tout & Sugar Snap Peas

I love to eat these veggies raw as a snack between my main meals.

But for the last month or so I have been having difficulty in finding them in most major supermarkets.
I have asked staff members at these supermarkets about the lack of these items, they say they just don't sell so have stopped stocking them.

I am also finding that Celery is rocketing in price, and it seems to wilt and go off a lot quicker than earlier in the year.

It's so frustrating trying to eat healthy when this happens.

I find it hard to get to a green grocers during the day as I go out to work at 8.00am and get home at 6.00pm, and where I work is no-where near a decent greengrocer shop.

A recent report stated that we don't eat enough veg, but it does not state that those of us who want to, cannot find the veg we are looking for... Sigh

I bought sugar snap peas this week from Asda. They came in a pack with baby sweetcorn. I also regularly buy mange tout and baby sweetcorn to use in stir fries.

I saw those multi pack a month or so back, but I am not keen on sweet corn and baby sweet corn.
I would rather buy the items separately than waste money on food that won’t be eaten. Especially as the cost of living has gone up, but my wages have not, I have to keep to a tight budget.

You would have to sow them exceptionally early to get a crop of these in this country as well as very favourable weather conditions - which is not going to happen!

They are still out of season so will be expensive and this means that as not many people will buy them at the price they are uneconomic to stock.

It is a good time to get your seeds in now! 8)

My Morrison store has mange tout with corn but also has sugar snap peas sorry didnt check price cos I didnt need them this week.Baby corn is a good addition to soup if you slice it quite finely it gives a chunkyness espcially to tomato and basil.

Thanks,

I went to our larger Morrisons store and managed to get a pack of both for £1.00

I am now wondering should I go and get some more and freeze them so I have a nice supply for a while.
