Theraputic uses of Cannabis.

I have an interest in this not because I wish to get high, but because of the pain reliveing properties of cannabis as I have small fibre neuropathy.

This is due to (although after discovering that you can also inherit it, I feel that rather some people with diabetes, I ws born predisposed to it)

Small fiber neuropathy is a very serious neurological disease in which progressively (although it can go straight to end stage) it destroys every nerve in your body.

The pain is utterly excruiating, along with the ever increasing burning and/or numbness, knife like stabbing pain and sharp pins and needle like pin pricking pain, aswell as nausea, a person faces losing all their bodily functions - eat, swallow (can end up choking to death) walk (terrible foot pain/swelling pain) double incontinence and sexual disfunction.

The drugs - as there are no real drugs specifically for nerve pain which is very difficult to treat - that are used, have MASSIVE side effects.

Patients can put on extra weight, being constantly groggy to the point of being a total zombie, and have hallucinations, and hear voices - even commiting suicide.

These drugs can also prove inaffective, and in case of opiates being given, highly addictive.

It is therefore utterly scandelous, when then is a proven viable alternative that can give me quality of life, I am being denied because of backward thinking policitians who continue to ascribe to upholding an outdated law.

And I'm now looking into how I can get it - which is tricky.

I'm going to contact the journalist who wrote the article.

And there's the uk cannabis club which I'm going to get in contact - need to find out which variety would best work for me, especially as I dont want to smoke it.

Never thought I'd be considering this!

Give it 5 years or so, I'll be legal in the UK too. There is such a huge opportunity to cash in on the cannabis market that the government would be daft to keep it illegal.
 
And in America - it's just been made legal in New York specifically for neuropathic pain.

And in the states that it is legal in the U.S.A, the local goverment is having its cut in taxes
 
I've had diabetic peripheral neuropathy for about 20 years and did a lot of research on it. If you have extreme nerve pain, then I'd look into Gabapentin, which seems to be a miracle, non-addictive drug used now mostly for nerve pain. It was originally developed for epilepsy. I have cervical stenosis, where all the spinal nerves in my neck are compressed. I use Alpha Lipoic Acid, the body's master antioxidant, that's been used in Europe for about 60 years by German doctors to treat diabetic peripheral neuropathy. It also is an extremely important supplement for type 2 diabetes. I've had California medical cannabis for 6 years, but have been using cannabis medically for about 51 years. The 4th thing, and most important if you're diabetic, is to get your blood sugars under control. I'm also an orthomolecular nutritionist, specializing in obesity, type 2 diabetes, and nutritional help for most all chronic diseases and medical conditions. Might also want to research a UK company - GWPharmaceuticals

That would be Sativex, It is licenced in the UK for treating MS spasticity.

Being prescribed Sativex

Sativex can only be prescribed by a specialist doctor with experience of treating MS spasticity - consultant neurologists, consultant rehabilitation specialists and consultant pain specialists.

Use of Sativex is currently limited to those people who respond to the first four weeks of treatment. If there is no clear improvement in spasticity-related symptoms, treatment is stopped.

Sativex has not been fully assessed by NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) as part of a separate technology appraisal. However, in the 2014 MS Clinical Guideline NICE did not recommend prescription of Sativex "because it is not a cost effective treatment".

In April 2011, the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC), which plays the equivalent role for the NHS in Scotland, announced that it was unable to recommend Sativex as it has not received a marketing authorisation submission from the manufacturer.

In August 2014, the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) recommended that Sativex could be used within the NHS in Wales as a treatment for the symptoms of moderate to severe spasticity in people with MS.

Hey nice thread, I am a type 1 of 28 years and I regularly use cannabis to help my pain and to also help take my irratic blood sugars... I find the best way is to use cannabutter which is made from decarboxylated buds.. Oils are also good but it depends what your looking to achieve... I would reccomend a cannabutter made from a indica dominant strain (the more indica the better but Hindu Kush or northern lights are safe bets) then follow the steps found on good to decarb your bud and make a butter...
 
Once you've made the butter you can use as you would in baking or cooking.. It will give an effect almost like a long acting carb (slow release no major peaks or highs)
