Type 2 Medical exemption

Hi all,
I’m new to this site so hope I’m posting this question in the right place. I was just told by my pharmacist that I am entitled to medical exemption from all prescription charges. But my GP never told me, and I’ve been paying for a prepayment certificate for six years! According to the PPC people I can’t claim a refund for that time - anyone have any experience here?

I’m assuming that’s because you have been on diabetic medication all that time? You do still need an exemption certificate for free ones and not just stop paying. Sorry I don’t know about retrospective refunds.

Hi @Louiselody ,

Welcome to the forum.

Are you now issued a medical, exemption card? Easy & free to apply for. I got a form from the surgery & filled it out. Didn't take long to drop through the door.
The certificate looks like a credit card in size & is valid for a duration of 5 years. Then you reapply.
Without this valid certificate one can get charged for script
It used to be a "given" with certain repeat meds.. However there are threads on the forum regarding folk fined for not having a valid in-date cert & ticking medical exempt...

Hope this helps?
