I have been on Metformin SR for about 18 months now and keep getting awful diarrhoea.
This time it was really bad so I went to my GP who advised me I had to stay on the medication and basically put up with it. I had really bad pains in my stomach and he suggested it could be an infection.

Last night he told me not to take the medication on an empty stomach and just have fluids. He also said I could not have a hypo because of this. I feel confused.

I always take my medication just after my main meal at 6pm.
Does anyone have any advice to stop this keep happening.

Thank you!!

If he thinks it could be an infection, is he testing you? You need to have the tests to rule this out and then consider different meds.

hi I am on metformin x 2 ..1grm tablets a day I was also ill because of these tablets and still was having raised sugars, my Dr put me on Dapagliflozin or forxiga 10mg tablet once a day this brought my sugars down and stopped me suffering with diarrhoea, this expels sugars via you're urine but you need to drink plenty of fluids
