Metformin = burning throat?

Are you taking with food ie with your meal Not before or at the end but mid meal

some times if you swallow with water and you leave the tablet too long in your mouth
I found that can make it burn on the way down sometimes

I always down mine with a bit of mushy food

if still a problem see your GP

I was on metformin for years, never experience that. But side effects don't happen to everyone.

Is your blood sugar high? It might be oral thrush. Better get it checked out at the GP, if it is thrush it needs treating, in my experience it won't go away on it's own.

So do i 50 tablets a day some before meal ,some with ,after a meal

The advice given for Metformin is to take them with your meal , most of us who take
Metformin take it with our meals .

I also find paracetamol can burn a bit if it get stuck half way down and starts to dissolve
Amitriptyline really starts to dissolve fast and can burn if I don't down that quick

Metformin can upset your tum when you first take it also when you up the dose
You my have some acid reflux bile coming back up that Deff burn your throat :?

Try some milk that sometimes helps with acid in your throat

Milk was used in my day for first aid for welders Arc eye, temp replaces the damaged film on your eye

If in doubt pop along to your GP

It might be worth mentioning it to your Doctor or the DSN next time you seee them though.
I knew someone who had beeb aking the standard release metformin for eleven years with no problems. Suddenly he began to cough up blood.. He had all the usual tests and it was concluded that the metformin was the culprit. The immediate release version that it. he was put on the slow release version and has had no further problems.
Sorry I can't tell you the reasons for this but my friend is one of those who does not want to know all the reasons why these hings happen and never asks quesions.
Just thought it was worth mentioning however as obviously it can affect the throat. Don't wish o alarm you but you might just be very sensiive . No harm in switching to the slow release anyhow.

Don't wait until you next see the DSN, make an appointment today and get it treated. It really does sound like thrush - it may not be though, which is why you need to see a GP rather than just get OTC stuff.
