Metformin & Type 1

Hi, since taking Metformin I am on a ratio of 1 unit per 10g of carb which is much better than before I use Novorapid with meals & Levemir before bed... I am awaiting further details about an up & coming Dafne course

HiI have been Type 1 for twenty years and was prescribed Metfornin two twice a day about 10 years ago after a double heart by-pass.The reason given was that it helps protect the heart. Hope this might help.

Before i Lost weight they tried to put me on it... but it gave me one of the worst stomic cramps ive ever had so i stopped and just low carbbed instead, i try to take the least amount of meds i have to, in the end low carbing and weight loss reduced my insulin resistance instead of just taking more meds.

I have been type 1 for over 52 years and I have taken Metformin for over 15 years, initially,to improve my insulin absorbsion ,which it did ,and reduced my insulin requirements, which resulted in weight loss and I had no side effects what so ever.It has been very good as far as I am concerned.

I am T1 diagnosed 10 yrs ago and was immediately put on metformin 2g. I had brilliant control with that plus insulin for years- kept weight down, helped with other conditions etc. Then last year I suffered metformin induced lactic acidosis and kidney failure. I still believe metformin can work really well for T1 but need to monitor your kidneys and acid levels really carefully!
