Can anyone help me-
Type 1 for 32 years.
Recently my insulin has not been working properly so I have been prescribed Metaformin in addition to insulin.
II have been taking it for 4 months now & still suffer from upset stomach all the time.
My Doctors solution is to take the Metaformin with up to 6 anti diahorea tablets daily.
This has caused a recurrence of Gastroparesis (Stomach not emptying).
I feel all my meds are working against each other.
I dont leave the house much as Im constantly running to the toilet. Also feeling exhausted & de hydrated.
Doctor refuses to refer me to a specialist in hospital.

Insist on a referral over to the hospital diabetes clinic, they are more adapt in dealing with type 1 related issues.

As for the Metformin, did your gp prescribe the SR version (slow release), this is said to be kinder on the stomach with less side-effects.

Thanks for your reply. I have the slow release it is still a problem.
I live in Spain so insisting on a referal is not so easy.

No I understand, but if the Dr is struggling to deal with your issues then its only right that they refer to a specialist diabetes clinic and or a gastroenterology clinic, its not good that you can't even leave the house as you need to be in the close proximity of a toilet.

I'm on the same. Are you on the slow\modified release or the normal one? I had horrible side affects and then they changed it to the slow release version and not had a problem.

I don't feel the metformin does anything though.
