I have a diabetic friend on insulin and he is a bit of a 'know it all' and he states that: Metformin does not really lower your BS levels, it just masks the effect on the test strip.
Personally I find this hard to believe. What say any experts out the? Regards Conrad
I'm not an expert but my understanding of Metformin is that it works by suppressing glucose production by the liver. Therefore it doesn't lower your blood sugars directly but by suppressing your glucose production does help with control.
Not sure what your friend means by masking the effect on the test strip!
