Hi TOMJC I've been T1 for over 54 years and been well controlled for the past 45 years and about 5 years ago I lost my 'hypo' awareness,I managed to live with it for about 3 years, then,I had 5 severe disabling hypo's,requiring third party assistance, one of which was at the hospital waiting to see my DSN.She decided that I needed to go on pump with a CGM and it was decided that Medtonic 640g was the answer, the pump was not a problem, but getting CGM funding, but with great support from my Endo and DSN and many meeting it eventually funding was agreed. That a bit of the history, basically I was frightened to sleep in case I had hypo.
Basically the CGM switches the pump off when it see's b/s falling and when it see's b/s riseing it switches the pump back on.Yes there is a lot of work to do when you start pumping.Thankfully it appears that I am starting to get my hypo awareness back, but only time will tell.If I can be of anymore help, please do not hesitate to contact me.
