Hi . So I have got myself a TEE2 + monitor. Very new to this so please bear with! How do I know if it’s accurate? Are there kits to prove it? The reason I ask is that my recent Hba... test put me at 39, a slight rise since my low of 36 last year. I’ve put this down to a lockdown weight rise which I’m working on now. My cholesterol is 3.5.
So getting the meter I was expecting a reading of around 5/6? Three readings now show 8.4. First thing in the morning and again a couple of hours after food. As far as I can tell the meter should work straight from the box. Also 8.4 every time? Any advice welcome.

Hi @Goldenoldy

A few things for you to consider:

It’s unlikely that you have a faulty meter but you should be able to get some control solutions from Spirit Health to double check. From memory they provide these for free.

Having said that, an HbA1c of 39 is roughly equivalent to an average BG reading of 6.5, which means you’ll spend time either side of that. With all meters having an accuracy tolerance of +/- 15%, then a reading of 8.4 doesn’t seem off the scale.

The first reading in the morning is often the highest or among the highest of the day due to dawn phenomenon and if you were at the same level 2 hour after eating, you’re clearly doing something right!

As you get more used to testing you’ll get more of a sense of which readings seem a bit off.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Tee2 folk have sent me a bottle of testing fluid for the meter.
