I am aware of the concept of DP which I hadn't really worried about before - on the list but least of my original problems,
But now it is not only worse it is pretty much the only real big rise of the day.

I go from a FBG of about 5 @ 7:30 then by 10:00 to 7 and it stays at that level or drifts really slowly down for 2 hours or more.

What techniques have people found to manage it - does it eventually go away on LCHF?

I was seeing 5 - 6 but now it is 5-7 it is a bit more worrying particularly if it continues to get worse.

I'd be interested in a guaranteed method of preventing liver dumping/dawn phenomena, I'm not convinced there is one. I hope somebody can prove me wrong. There again, what works for one, may not work for another.

I'm unsure about what should be worrying, I'd be as happy as Larry between 5 and 7. As you can see from the output from the old FS Libre, happily jogging along between 5.6 and 7.8, no food since 20:00, then at 06:00, 2 poached eggs on 2 big mushrooms (low carb, low protein) and back on the roller coaster. What I more worried about is how would the medical profession treat BG like this?

In my experience, my Morning BS changes with the level of daily carbs - below 20g they get worse.
I wondered if it was because Im on glic and maybe betting nocturnal hypos with a smyogi bounce back, so I began testing in the early hours but I wasnt finding any hypos. Thinking I might just be getting the timing of testing wrong, I stopped glic as an experiment - Morning sugars got worse
My guess is that we all have an individual "sweet spot" ( excuse the pun) where LC, DP, and overall glyceamic control become optimal.
At the moment upping carbs to between 25 & 50g and dropping cals to under 1000 seems to have put morning sugars nicely back in their proper place

I'm sorry but you can't beat the evolutionary process. the liver dump is a survival trait and it would not be in our best interests in the long run to try and circumvent it even if it were possible to do so.

Some of us find we have to eat something upon rising. Even something small. Coffee with double cream works for some.

My FBG has always been low (low to mid 5s) but after getting up and starting the day I started to rise by about 1mmol/l and stayed up there for a few hours, most of the morning in fact.

I solved these morning rises by putting fat in my tummy within 10 minutes of getting out of bed. Initially a soft boiled egg, on its own. That worked to an extent and I kept going with it for months, but it wasn't really enough. I changed to no food and a decaff coffee with double cream (2 dollops). I have never had any trouble since and it has been nearly 12 months now. Nowadays I stay flat and often drop. By lunch time I often see 4s. That was unheard of before at that time of day.

I tried many of the techniques discussed on the forum to stop post waking liver dumps, but none of them worked. In the end decided just to accept them for what they are. However, My post waking liver dump has gradually reduced over time - not sure whether it is just time or if it's down to intermittent fasting (no breakfast and a few days a week of 24 hour fasts). Occasionally get a bigger than expected dump but there is definitely progress.

That's fair enough, but I think that my liver dumps at the moment would result in my HbA1c being higher than it should be. I know that my BG can be in normal ranges 24hrs a day, I probably need to get more days of starvation under my belt.

Pretty much everyday now. A new thing that seems to have kicked in - generally good control.
This morning 5 - 7.3 over 2 hours before a slowwwww.... drop to 5.4 after about 4 hours.

Hi David, it may be worth considering the function of the renal system when the body is horizontal. Sugars being dense the excess could be excreted more efficiently when we are upright.
