I really need help, every morning without a doubt I wake up with a high sugar of between 12-20 depending on the day. I do one shot of levemir a day in the morning and do 18 units. Any more than that makes my sugars drop extremely low. I'm not allowed to do my long acting insulin at night because it gives me terrible hypos (off the scale) I've tried Lantus also and that is just as bad. My GP will not fund Tresiba as it is too expensive. I'm sick of waking up high it makes me feel really **** for the rest of the day, any help is appreciated!
 
Perhaps you need a split dose?
Check with your specialist as this may be the way forward for you since it is likely that you are running high because the Levemir is not lasting you the full 24 hours.
 
Second the split-dose suggestion, but we've been here before Nicola, will your Consultant not put your name forward for a pump?

I wish! When I went on the DAFNE course a couple of weeks ago the team leader said she would put me forward as a priority. I was supposed to have an appointment with my diabetes team yesterday but the specialist nurse is off sick and doesn't have any more appointments until mid-may. And that's if they even mention the pump. It's quite strict where I'm at and it's all about the cost aspect rather than if you need it. It's just May is a fair way away and I feel stuck in this situation that's getting no better.

I used to do split doses, but it made my sugars drop. I had a CGMS that registered lows every night of 2.2 On 2 occasions it flat lined at 2.2 for the whole night, but they believe it dropped lower than that because of the flat line but the CGMS couldn't register lower than 2.2 I'm a little frightened to try again as you could probably understand. I only used to do 4 units at night as well.
 

Nicola, as your reluctant to split-dose or take your levemir on a night could you not move it slightly forward from the morning and take it say late afternoon, it may/may not make a difference but its worth a try, if you find your bg is high later on the following morning you could always take a correction dose with your lunch.

As for your DSN being off sick, I find if you ring the consultants secretary it always gets things moving, if you say you are fed-up and feel ill with these high morning bg levels they may try and get you in earlier to see the consultant, no guarantees but worth a try.
