I’m with you on bones. I get mine free of charge at my local farmers market. I say free but I do buy a pack of their minced beef. The bones brewed in a slow cooker makes soup for the week. Healthy and wholesome. For a deeper flavour roast the bones first.
 
Additionally, the smell most people associate with insulin is actually phenol and one of the uses of phenol is as an antiseptic. So that probably reduces the risk of infection as well. I don't re-use my needles but I have in the past
 
Yep I should have mentioned roasting the bones. I roast the garlic, celery, onion and carrots that I use on the same tray before throwing them all into the slow cooker. I sometimes add cocoa nibs (yeah!) and red wine as well but both of those ingredients are not cheap and since being diagnosed with diabetes I leave the wine out, but tastes great without it anyhow

It's great that your farmers market gives them to you as a free bonus when you buy mince. Perhaps I should find a farmers market!
