hi guy not sure if you guys rember me posting about some time back mentioning when i miss my basal insulin levemir that my sugar stays flat and doesnt really move up or down which is extremly wierd lol. so seen my diabetic doctor recently i spoke to him reguarding the issue he said that he think my pancreas is still producing some amount of insulin this is so wierd as i know my body doesnt produce insulin for when i eat but seems like my body is giving some amount of basal insulin. i know when i miss my levemir i become very insulin resistant to my novorapid. now im trying to ajust my basal insulin any tips apart from regular basal testing you guy could suggest to try get right basal dose?.

Hi @static192, What most people talk about with checking their basal is checking their BSLs (finger pricking, or monitor , libre, CGM etc) during a period of fasting (= no food/carbs etc or short-acting insulin) for 12 hours or less.
Maybe something to discuss with your doctor? With my insulin pump I limit fasting to 12 hours because I have found that after about 16 hours of fasting on my basal regime I start to develop ketones (? from starvation) and that mucks up my insulin sensitivity/resistance and so may lead to inaccurate results)

If you split it you can adjust it every 12 hours or so which can be very useful. For example, if I ate a meal that I know will digest for hours after eating it such as pizza, pasta, steak, Chinese food, etc., I will take more units of Levemir before going to bed than I normally would. I adjust the morning dose based on my expected level of activity. I take more if I anticipate a stressful day at the office for example and less if I am going to be active all day. I find this is really useful.
