Hi jjeped,
Firstly, please know that you cannot progress to Type 1 from Type 2. The two things are quite different. Secondly, there is an old saying"you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink'. I'm sure you've heard that before. I don't suppose your husband is alone in his "you only live once" attitude but that is a shame and I can perfectly understand your fears for him.
Perhaps you could encourage him to take a peek at the forum for himself. Get him to read the "Success stories" thread. He might just be surprised that he can still look after himself but enjoy life too.
If he won't look at the forum, get him some books on diabetes and leave them lying around the house. I'm sure he knows about the possible long-term complications. If he knows about them and still insists on not looking after himself, there is lots that you can do to help him if you are the one who does the cooking. If you try to reduce his carb. intake litttle by little, that will help enormously. Some folk find it harder than others but if he knows he can still enjoy things like steak, cheese and cream, that might be incentive enough for him to start eating sensibly.
If you could encourage him to take up some sort of exercise too, that would help him. It doesn't have to be costly. Walking is hugely beneficial and free.
I'm sure it's hard for you when your hubby doesn't want to see sense but don't give up.......your support is vital to him.
All the best, Chocoholic.
