My Hypo Seizure Story

Wow, that sounds like a very interesting set of experiences! Glad you are remaining positive after all those years and doing well. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this and I really appreciate you taking the time to look for it. This is very helpful and I'm going to call the DVLA on Monday to discuss my options. Similarly to the OP, and if the laws haven't changed in 3 years, it sounds like I'll opt to temporarily surrend my license too.

Sorry you had to go through all of this and hope you make a speedy recovery.
I too went through similar to yourself and ended up having stitches in my top lip and very very nearly cut the main nerve in my hand. I had many tests to try and figure out what was causing them but have never got any definitive answers. The only suggestion I would say is to set the alarms slightly higher and just hope it doesn’t happen again. Have you got a glucagon kit from the GP ( I always have a couple in the fridge for instances such as these as they can be administered whilst experiencing the seizure) as I did have them frequently but have appeared to have grown out of them until last year.

You have to have a sense of humour about it - made it through ok (so far) - at one stage was afraid of going to sleep as I didn't know if I'd wake up the next day (was like that for a long time) - now I don't worry at all (but its taken a lot of work to get to that over the years and with better tech).

I'm safer today than ever and love being able to do stuff without thinking so much (once worked in Naples - that was a hell of a diabetic rollercoaster because of the amazing food and being MDI - honeymooned in Italy (years later) and didn't have a problem - pump and CGM)

Made it through Christmas day 97% in range (yay) - and have improved my TIR lots this last 3 or 4 months (mostly due to me experimenting) - there are still bad days where TIR is in the 70s - but not had an 'outage' that required help for years (but it does take a lot of work to achieve it - should be less work as I now have good foundations)

It's possible to be safe from the lows - takes work and time to understand and experiment to find what fits you and your own body - but its possible
