that was the first question i asked also and unfortunately there is no straight answer the more type 1 in the family the higher there chances apparently more comanlly mothers pass it daughters and farthers to sons my husband is the first in the family to develope it after a really bad virus we think triggerd it but his family do suffer from other autoimune disorders such as poriasis and asthma and only at diagnoses we found diabetes falls in to this category also. so sorry no one can answer that with certainty we as mums just have to be vigilant and keep an eye out for the tell tail signs and also cross our fingers our babys will be ok

It's not absolute though. No point worrying about it, there's a 90% chance, with each child, that it won't happen.
