Hi sl33pY and welcome to the forum Yours is an unusual story - I wonder if any other members have experienced this extended honeymoon? Some T1s will be along later to share their experiences with you. They will be interested to hear more about how you are eating, etc.

Since you are a new member here is some information prepared by the former Monitors which gives you advice on how to look after your diabetes. I think you will find this interesting and may help you prolong your perfect sugar readings for as long as possible.

Hi,

i had a very small honeymood period. So your very lucky to have such a long one!

My nurse mentioned that few lucky people can honeymoon for years!

I hope it continues for you for as long as possible.

i was told by the drs/nurse to eat what ever i want as i really needed to put weight on lol as my weight was dropping still but never really had a proper diet, can a honeymoon last this long ? since i came off insulin my suagrs/hba1c has been normal no diet needed i can drink energy drink, high carb meals what ever my sugars stay normal

maybe its gone ?

It's rare that a honey moon period lasts years and years, and to be honest i'm not sure what the longest one is.. i may have to google this

Aslong as your having regular HBA1c's that are fine and you aren't having any symptoms of high BG's then keep on as you are, just be aware that the more you eat and drink the more work your pancreas has to do, i'm not saying you'll wear it out quicker just makes a little sense to me?

I wouldn't say it's gone either, unless someone medically trained can prove thats the case.

But either way your lucky

Ahh, I didn't know about honeymoon periods when I had mine! Because I was 10, and so I didn't really pay attention But I think mine was only a month or so? I have no idea :S

some people don't even have them at all!

I think mine was also a month or so, it didn't allow me to come off insulin, it did cause alot of choas though!

I think I must also be on extended honeymoon, I have had no Insulin since Aug 2011 and I eat rice almost everyday, bread, I have 2 sugars in tea and coffee, can eat cakes and all sorts of nice sweet things and have even lost about 2 stone and my levels are always good, not sure why, just considering myself lucky and hoping it continues

Wow thats amazing. I hadnt even heard of a honeymoon peiod before I came on here. I am only assuming that my initial dose of insulin wasnt as much as it is now that maybe that was mine, but I has never been mentioned to me by any of the hcps.

Really pleased for you though, I hope it continues for you.

Do take care of your body, looks like you've had a close one there.

Good luck

Lucy.

Hi there! I'm also honeymooning, 2,5 years since diagnosis. I do need some insulin though, 7u of levemir every night and 2-5u of novorapid for my meals. My endo said that the longest honeymoon he'd heard of was 5 years - i'm going for the record
