Need a bit of quick advice....

Hi, my son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on Monday. We came home from the hospital last night absolutely exhausted with all the info that we have been bombarded with....
This morning, when my son was doing his insulin, he pulled the novo pen out after 3 seconds!!!

We are not sure what to really do now so any advice???

Hi and welcome,

Not really sure in this case but did any of the fluid come out with the needle?

Just be aware that he may not have got quite a complete dose and check the levels after eating to make sure he doesn't go too high. I'm sure it will be fine.

He said the fluid did come out but wasn't sure how much..

We are going to check his bloods again in an hour and keep an eye on him.
(This is all a bit to new and scary!!!)

Agree, it will probably be fine, just keep an eye on his levels. Probably quite a lot of the dose went in.
It's all scary at first try not to worry too much, it will get easier

Too soon, I was told to count to 8 before pulling the needle out of the skin, if you pull it out too soon after injecting you can get insulin seepage.
 

I was told 10 in case I counted too quick :lol:

Ideally you count to 8ish, to be sure, but I really wouldn't worry about it. I don't think I ever leave my needle in more than 3 seconds! And I am perfectly normal 8)

My DSN probably thought I would be in hurry most of the time!! :lol:
She did say 6 to 8 but said she usually told newbies 10 so they didn't rush things too much initially.

Thanks to all for the responses and the welcomes.

The diabetes nurse called earlier to check up on us and she said the he will be fine, just to keep an eye on his levels through the day.

We were told yesterday to count to 10 with the novo pen but he said it fell out after 3!!!!!

Hi, I was only diagnosed last week I agree that all the info is a lot prob too much to take in, along with that all the tests that need to be made theyve been almost asking me for everything my body secretes externally. The only way I have found to feel with it and obviously is to prioritise, I may not have fully got the list right but first I check levels of BG, secondly Insulin dose, third diet esp salt and sugar intake, fourth exersise, and finally although this may not necessarily apply lifestyle.

As for the nova as it has been said my diabetic nurse said always count to ten before removing.
