I think you should think about ringing NHS direct and they will put you through to a doctor who might be able to help. Tell them what the reading is and they should put you through to a doctor.

I could tell you what I personally would do, but I don't know if what I'd do is the right thing to do, if you know what I mean! So I think you should ask NHS direct. Warning, you need a lot of patience when speaking to them - the people who answer the phones are reading through a flow chart on the computer, they will ask you about lots of seemingly random symptoms, try not to get too irritated.

hi jimdog,

as hlw said it might be best asking a DSN if you can via NHS direct.

My rule of thumb, and I must stress this is what works for me, is to have a level of at least 6 before I go to bed. I have found that 10g of carbs pushes my bg up 2 to 3 mmol/l

My attitude is that as a 1 off I will rather have my levels a little high overnight (particularly when I am sleeping alone cos of travelling or my wife is away) so that I remain safe in my own mind.

Good luck and hope you find your rules of thumb.

Many thanks Hlw and Andys

Contacted nhs direct last night once id navigated the system  i spoke to a very good operater who put me through to a more experiaced person who advised me it was a little low not serious to warrant emergency treatment unless i wasent able to cope at i said i could cope, she told me to eat some carbs asked me what food i had told her i had bread chease ham diabetic jam weetabix she said have few slices of bread with jam and maybe some weetabix and then do my glargine to cover me during night and test myself an hour later unless i was feeling low test sooner i did an hour later bg up to 5.5 on wake up i was 5.3 felt a more happy on going to bed then.

Many thanks Jim
