Hi everyone, I really need some advice. I have been type 2 for about 2-3 yrs now and have been suffering fatigue since. I have just started a new job and start work at8 am.at between 9-11am every morning I suffer this rapid and overwhelming onset of sleepiness. My lids are heavy almost like they have weights on them, I become confused, see stars, dizziness,I also get a slight falling feeling..I was getting these symptoms before I started the new job but could give in to the sleep and also they weren't regular as I wasn't in the same routine. These episodes last approx one hour.
I am wondering if it is related or is it something more serious.please can anyone give me any advice

hi, welcome

maybe someone will be able to help if you gave us a little more info, medication, diet and hba1c ?

Hi, sounds like you really need to see gp, these symptoms could be many things, May or may not be related to t2 suggest you see your gp and seek further advise, you might need some blood tests....hope you feel better once things are sorted out...tc Kat x

Thank you. I am on metformin 500 twice a day. My diet is not always as it should be and I'm not sure what my hba1c was at my last check.

I will call my gp tomorrow first thing. Since writing this post I had another episode,The second of the day,I must get to the bottom of this. Thank you for your advice.x

Unexplained tiredness can be caused by the following:
1. High Blood sugars
2. Underactive Thyroid
3. Vitamin D deficiency
4. Vitamin B12 deficiency
5. Iron deficiency anaemia

If your control isn't too good then I'd probably say high blood sugar. Sounds to me like the feeling you get after a big Christmas dinner and people start dropping off to sleep.

I get extreme fatigue and need to have a sleep if I eat bread or any other high carb, so I feel it may be connected with high blood sugars. But I would check with your Dr. to make sure. I had this before diagnosis and as I have fibromyalgia thought it was chronic fatigue syndrome. Then I noticed it was after eating bread or similar. Hope you get it sorted out as it's a horrible feeling.

How long did you used to sleep for?
I found I used to need to "power nap" for 10 or 15 minutes.
But then I found if I couldn't I stopped needing to, so it may just be a habit you can break.
