I have been diabetic for years and have so many health problems including depression l have let myself go, keep forgetting insulin not checking bs l am a mess and want to sort myself out and don,t know where to start. I've had the feeling that nobody cares and to be honest neither have I, I am really struggling as I take insulin twice a day and hubby takes meteor in for his and his bs levels are great all the time, l am over weight and lethargic no energy nothing I,m at end of my tether when l saw doctor last l even said if l was a dog with all these problems I,d be put down. L have no one for encouragement and stay at home all the time very seldom go out please l need hep

I don't take insulin, so I can't advise with that, but you have come to the right place. Though weekends can be a bit quiet so hang on in there.

You obviously want to change things or you wouldn't have posted, that's a good first step, just take one step at a time and you will get there......xxx x annie

Like Annie says take it one step at a time.

Here's a 3 step plan to get going!

First off set an alarm on your mobile to remind yourself to take insulin.
Next start checking your blood sugar.
Finally make an appointment with your DSN who should (with any luck!) be able to support you.

Good luck

Annette

Thank you this morning l checked my bs and it was 13, l have taken my inulin which is novo I'd 30 flexible pen and had some breakfast so here's hoping l can do this good idea to set alarm on phone for mobile will do that hope to get on right track

So far today been a good day bs ok and took everything on time etc and bs was just at 10 there but had dinner about an hour ago so looking good xx

Best wishes for a good guideline from your doctor or websites on controlling your blood sugar; with many people, when it is high or even very low, all kinds of emotional and cognitive things can go wrong-- and that becomes a Catch-22 situation. So, it's worth investing in how to learn to keep a good control. I'm sorry you're feeling bad; you say you have other problems too- they don't put dogs down you know - they get treatment for diabetes. Cheers

one thing that helped me get back into regular testing was getting a new blood meter that worked very quickly. my old one took something like 20 seconds. new caresens one takes 5 seconds and is very easy to use. just because it's so quick and easy, i started testing several times a day and it's made a huge difference.

Bless you.

Everyone feels helpless at some points. I looks like from your posts your improving which is great. As your BG's start to lower you'll have more energy and maybe that will lift your spirits.

Don't compare yourself to your hubby. Everyones diabetes is different and some people find it easy to control and other find it quite difficult.

Keep testing, keep a diary and keep taking your insulin!

Your doctor doesn't sound very encouraging at all. I hope you prove him wrong!

When you feel extra low or need encouragment or need a kick up the rear come here because there will always be someone who will answer your post.

Dont lose hope Mrsneverin

Thank you for all your encouraging words l am testing regularly and taking all my insulin on time gonna give diabetic clinic at hospital a visit tomorrow as l need a new machine and get one free from them and a new monitoring book will keep checking in with you all xx

Day 2 really good day with BS levels and l feel real good about myself it's thanks to you guys and encouragement xx

Hey, well done! I think many of us hae been there, and it actually is quite liberating to find that you can improve things. Hope you start to feel better too! Please don't be put off, if things don't go so well...it is difficult to be perfect all the time!

It may be, that with tesing and, taking your insulin, you can get excellent control..and that would be great. It could also be, that you reach a plateau, at which point, don't give up, but ask your Dr about other regimes. I found, that once I started helping myself, the medical staff were very happy to try and help me too.

this is extremely good advice. national stats show that it's harder to bring blood sugars down when you are managing on insulin, compared with tablets and diet. So in fact, be extra proud of yourself.

Hi there, you should talk to your Diabetic Nurse or Doctor when you attend your next clinic appointment ask tell them (don't ask) that you would like to attend the next DAFNE course in your area. You will or should have excellent control of your BS after the course. I have been diabetic for 40 years (yes 40 years) and after attending the course a year ago my BS has been the best it has ever been in all these years.

Not only will the course help with your control but you will be there with other diabetics and you can all share your specific problems, I think you will find other people may have the same problem as yourself. You will feel 100% better after being there and remember don't be shy, TELL them you want on the course. Good luck and I know you will get through the depression as my wife has had the same problem and it will get better because it is an illness and when treated correctly it will get under control. Kind regards, Jim
