Hi young17,
I was diagnosed type 1 at a similar age and I know it's tough at first. Hooking up with the forum is a smart move, though. You can learn from all our mistakes.
Your sugars are higher than you'd like because there is a lot of starch in your diet. Toast, baguettes and rice are all digested into glucose very quickly and will push your blood sugar too high. You may well have been told to eat starchy carbohydrates at every meal, but this is nonsense in my opinion. Why on earth should you base your diet upon the very foods which have the worst effect on blood sugar levels? Especially when they don't even contain any significant nutrients. You will need lots of insulin to deal with these foods, which also makes hypoglycemia much more likely. You don't want to go there, believe me!
The ham, salad and chicken are a much better bet, as are all meats, fish, eggs, cheese, nuts and vegetables, other than potatoes.
All the best,
fergusc
