Hello there, bad-jojo,
I'm a new boy too but I was lucky. My wife is a bully and understands the concepts of a reduced carb diet thoroughly. Just as well because, to make life more interesting for me, I now live in France and their idea of a diabetes diet also came out of the ark.
As well as looking at the thread catherinecherub suggested, have a look at this site: bloodsugar101. Yes, it's an American site but please don't hold that against the author - somebody has to live there.
Blood sugar control is the name of our game now and your meter is your best friend - stick with it and the carb cutting. When I crashed in August, my HbAc1 was 8.2% - now it's 6.2% and my insulin dose is down from 20 units to 4. The prandin the French doctor prescribed - that's sitting in the drawer - unopened!
Stick with the forum - you'll get lots of tips and ideas as well as moral support - we're all in the same boat.
John
