I've been using an Accuchek Aviva Nano meter since I was diagnosed type 2 about 3 years ago. Unfortunately the meter has developed a fault and I needed to buy a new one.
They no longer make the one I've been using, so I consulted with the diabetes nurse as to which ones they will be able to give me a prescription for test strips. I was advised to get a GlucoRX Nexus.
On using the new meter, I've noticed that the readings seem to be approximately 2 mmol higher than was the case with the accuchek meter. For example, a reading of 6.0 on the accuchek becomes a reading of about 8.0 on the GlucRx.
I test the new meter with a calibration solution and the result is within the normal range for the new meter, although the reading is at the higher end of the range
So my question is this, is it normal to have such a difference between 2 meters? I suspect I cant ask for a replacement meter as it appears to be working within the recommended range.
I was quite happy have a pre meal reading of about 5.5, but now that reading has jumped to about 7.5.
Could it be as simple as the old meter was giving a false reading before it broke?
Fyi. I am not on any diabetes medication at the moment. I was taken of metformin after a heart attack I had about a year ago.
